Recently I happened to be at the outskirt of Zhengzhou, giving me totally unexpected feelings. I had been living in Dalian for over 7 years and admired the beautiful scenery there. I was so sorrowful when I had to leave. However, when I saw the tall and straight poplar trees along the grand Yellow River today, which are not the gingko trees as I would often see in Dalian, I thought of the famous essay "Ode to Poplar" and got to know the profound meaning in the article.
So I realize that each city has its own speciality, fostering its own people with particular characteristics. And when you stay in a city a bit longer time, looking around you in the street, you'll find there are so many similarities among people both in this city and that, where you used to live.
Alas, that's what I've found the similarities and differences among people in different places.
Thank God for such wonderful creactions!

Only one sentence in Chinese will help him out
I saw a foreigner at Guangzhou Raiway Station yesterday evening who wanted to buy a train ticket to Shenzhen. He neither knew where the ticket office was nor could he speak Chinese. While he and the railway station clerk were struggling to make themselves understood in vain, the clever foreign friend seemed to see the willingness of help in my eyes and asked, "can you speak English?" That brought the happy ending of the story. How I wish next time if ever I could see him, i would surely tell him how to say "去深圳的火车票,哪里买?(qu4 shen1 zhen4 de5 huo3 che1 piao4, na3 li3 mai3 Where can i buy a train ticket to Shenzhen?)"

My new website of on-line Chinese learning
In our spare time, my husband and I , with the help of a few friends, have established an on-line Chinese learning program, committed to "bridging the gaps between cultures". We wish it will be helpful for people all over the world who are interested in China and Chinese culture. Here it is http://www.learningchinese.org
